Adam Moody is a fifth-generation farmer. He and his wife Lucy reside in Southern Montgomery County on their 250-acre farm.
They were married in 1980 and decided to follow a slightly less common approach to raising their two children. Home schooling them and living without television allowed them to begin thinking outside of the box in other areas.
In 1987, Adam began to farm sustainably with minimal use of chemicals. By 1997 he began raising free-range chicken, eggs, beef and pork, using land that had once been dedicated to corn and soybeans. Lucy and Adam took these processed meats directly to the consumer through farmer’s markets in Zionsville and Lafayette. In the course of these years he began to see that agri-business promotes the commodity production of bins and bushels of grain for the purpose of the dollar. Adam and Lucy believe True farming is the sustainable production of quality food from the soil for years to come with as few off-farm inputs as possible.
The fall of 2000 marked the beginning of a new journey for Adam and Lucy. The Ladoga facility that had been processing their animals for three years was offered to them for purchase. They were most excited about the opportunity that the strong retail business afforded for the development of relationships with their employees and customers.
Since purchasing the slaughtering facility and entering the business world, Adam and Lucy have opened two retail stores, Avon in 2003 and Zionsville in 2009. Their products are also available for delivery to your door via Green Bean Delivery (Limited Delivery Areas).
Adam and Lucy are very proud of the growth and success of the business, yet they know who the true Owner is and continue to draw wisdom and strength from Him. Their greatest blessing is not listed on any financial statement but is in their four children who work directly in the business. They are honored to be training this sixth generation and hope their tradition of caring for the land carries on for many more.
